Judy’s 1930 short Bubbles will be released as part of a new Vitaphone DVD set from Warner Archive. No cover art has been published yet. The six disc set is scheduled for release tomorrow, 12-14-2010. Bubbles is also on the Meet Me in St. Louis DVD.
Judy was still Frances Gumm, one third of “The Gumm Sisters” when she made the short. It would be her last known screen appearance before she and her sisters reappeared in 1935 as “The Garland Sisters” in the Technicolor short La Fiesta de Santa Barbara. Bubbles was also filmed in early tw0-strip technicolor but only a black and white print survives. The photo at the right is Judy’s first known screen close-up as featured in Bubbles.
For information about all of Judy’s early shorts, go to The Judy Room Filmography Gumm Sisters Shorts page.
