The Savoy Jazz label (listed on Amazon as simply “Savoy”) has jumped on the current vinyl resurgence in releasing, this June 17th, a highly abridged vinyl version of their 2007 CD release “Judy Garland – Greatest Hits – Live.”
This title is a curious choice for the label to release on LP as it’s the only release in their series of CDs that is at a CD length and not an LP length. The majority their other releases in their series of CDs ripped from the audio of Judy’s 1963/1964 TV series clocked in at an average of approximately 45 minutes. Because of this, several tracks from the original CD release of “Greatest Hits – Live” are not included on this new LP, while five tracks from other CDs in the Savoy series have been added (see the notes below). The additions are obviously an attempt to increase the appeal (sales) of the LP by featuring not just Judy Garland but also Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, and Ethel Merman.
Considering how uneven the sound quality is on the CD releases, from track to track, it’s doubtful that this LP will be any better.
