Things are ramping up for the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz next year. In addition to the planned Blu-ray, standard DVD, & 3D releases of the film, there are two books coming out this fall:
The Wizard of Oz: The Official 75th Anniversary Companion
by William Stillman
No cover art yet, but the book is scheduled for release on November 5, 2013. It’s the first “official” tie-in to the 75th anniversary announced thus far (outside of the Blu-ray/DVD sets that recently popped up on Amazon. Barnes & Noble currently has it listed for pre-order. More details to come.
From the publisher’s website: “This book documents that magical journey through beautiful photographs of the world’s largest collection of Oz memorabelia. Whether it’s first-edition covers, a munchkin costume, or the Wicked playbill, the iconic items on these pages tell the story of America’s most beloved fairy tale. Come over the rainbow and see why there truly is no place like Oz.” Amazon has it listed here, with a release date of October 7, 2013 although the publisher’s website lists it as October 1st. Either way, be sure to pre-order your copy now!
Both authors have published previous works on The Wizard of Oz, as co-authors of the 50th anniversary illustrated companion, and separately. These two new books are sure to enhance the upcoming 75th anniversary of the film. Not to mention they’ll enhance every Oz fan’s bookshelf.
