Wow, she really was not being complimented as the Judy of yore. Well, I guess she had her good days and bad as well. It is certainly sad to read these reviews, but they do give us an understanding of how she was perceived at the time.
It’s very interesting to see the change in tone over the years. Columnists seemed more concerned about her weight in the 1950s whereas in the 60s they began to notice the makeup of Judy’s audiences was becoming more and more like a cult and her voice was very up and down. Most agreed, though, that she dazzled audiences regardless of the quality of her voice.
